BARPETA: The stock of rhino horns in the State will be destroyed very soon. The State Government has started examining and counting the stocked rhino horns. In this regard, a committee was formed by the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Chief Wildlife Warden, MK Yadav.

The specialist committee arrived in Barpeta on Friday. At the DC conference hall, Barpeta, in presence of district administration and forest officials, the committee members examined and counted the rhino horns. One of the members of the committee said that there were 39 rhino horns stocked in Barpeta district treasury office and 2,500 rhino horns stocked all over Assam.

In the year 2016, the rhino horns of Assam were examined and counted. In 2010, through a notification, the government had started destroying all total 1,600 rhino horns. But a person named Dilip Nath suspected the activities of the forest department and appealed to the Prime Minister and President of India for inquiry. Accordingly, the specialist committee was formed in the year 2016 in order to examine rhino horns. After that, it was reported that a total of 2,100 rhino horns were stocked in the State.
