BISWANATH CHARIALI: Sri Sri Dakshinpat Xatra of Majuli has come forward to offer the land required for the proposed university at Gohpur about which Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had recently announced. During a visit to Gohpur, the Chief Minister mentioned about the necessary steps taken by the government for the establishment of a university in Gohpur subdivision in the Biswanath district, which would be dedicated to the great sacrifice of Birangana Kanaklata Baruah, a martyr of the ‘Quit India Movement’.
Since the said university will become one of the largest universities in Assam, as announced by the Chief Minister, about 550 bighas of land with suitable geographical environment will be required for setting up of it. Sri Sri Dakshinpat Xatra owns around 625 bighas of land (lakheraj) at Aforakhat near the NH 15, north to Ghahigaon Chariali under Halem revenue circle of Gohpur subdivision. Responding to the people’s request to the Xatradhikar of Sri Sri Dakshinpat Xatra seeking land for setting up the university on the said lakheraj land at Aforakhat, the Xatradhikar has come forward to make this noble cause of the Government of Assam and the people a success.
In a positive response, Pradunnya Dutta, on behalf of Sri Sri Dakshinpatiya Satradhikar Goswami, has submitted a written application to the Revenue Circle Officer of Halem Revenue Circle. The petition with a list of required documents of the said land, the land map and others, mentions that they would be honoured if the land could be donated for Kanaklata Baruah University.
Meanwhile, an eight-member delegation from the region met Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, Principal Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Government of Assam, on Friday. The delegation, met the Principal Secretary with the consent letter given by the Xatra to provide the required land for Kanaklata University, along with the trace map of the said land. The delegation explained to the Principal Secretary about the geographical location of the land of the Xatra. There was also a cordial discussion between the two sides in this regard.
The delegation also met the District Commissioner of Biswanath, Dr Neha Yadav on Saturday and apprised her of the whole development.
