TANGLA: The Udalguri chapter of All Adivasi Students' Association of Assam (AASAA) on Sunday observed the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples at Hattigarh in Udalguri district. Udalguri chapter president Tinku Orang hoisted the organizational flag and paid tribute to martyrs. President of AASAA, Pradeep Nag said, "The Adivasi, despite being one of the indigenous communities of India, are still fighting for their identity in Assam as Adivasis of Assam are yet to notified as Scheduled Tribe (ST)."

He further reiterated that ST status was the primary demand of the Adivasis of Assam and it was the community's constitutional safeguard and the Adivasis would continue their fight for it. "The BJP government just gave us fake promises but never fulfilled our demands and the community has joined hands to give the BJP a befitting reply in the 2021 Assembly polls," said publicity secretary of Udalguri chapter AASAA, Laxman Porja.
