Star Student Award of the year given away by Mangaldai College to meritorious students

MANGALDAI: Mangaldai College has been continuing its academic activities under the Star College scheme sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The ‘Star Student Award’, which is awarded to the best student from Botany, Chemistry, Physics and Zoology, is one of the major functions organized every year by the college under the scheme.

This year, Arunima Konwar (Botany), Gulap Hussain (Chemistry), Anamika Sarkar (Physics) and Bidushi Saha (Zoology) were given the Star Student Award in a well-arranged function organized in the science gallery of the college on Thursday. The award comprises of a packet of reference books worth of Rs 5,000, one bag and a stipend of Rs. 1000 for summer training organized by DBT Star College.

Chief guest of the function, Professor Hari Prasad Sarma, Rector and Head of Environmental Science Department of Gauhati University and Principal of Mangaldai College, Dr. Khagendra Kumar Nath, in presence of the teachers, other invited guests and students, honoured the students with the Star Student award.

Earlier, Prof. Hari Prasad Sarma delivered a popular lecture on ‘Solid Waste Management’, organized jointly by IBT hub and DBT Star College Scheme, Mangaldai College, where he tried to address many important and burning issues of solid waste management. He urged the students to be part of a clean and green environment.

In the function, Principal of Mangaldai College, Dr. Khagendra Kumar Nath in his welcome speech expressed his satisfaction over the overwhelming support to the college by DBT for academic excellence. He encouraged students and teachers to take the benefits of DBT schemes at maximum level in greater academic interest of the college.

Media person and former general secretary of Mangaldai College Students’ Union, Bhargab Kumar Das, while taking part in function, appealed the student to come forward to get involved in multi-cropping organic agriculture and horticulture.
