State Excise Department, Doomdooma Police seized illicit liquor in Hokonguri TE

DOOMDOOMA: The State Excise Department along with Doomdooma Police seized a large number of boiled rice containers used for preparing illicit local rice beer in Hokonguri TE on Monday. On receiving complaint from the manager of the TE, the State Excise department carried out this search operation in three labour quarters in line No. 12 of the tea garden. Taking advantage of the lockdown for COVID-19, the illicit liquor and local rice beer producers blocked their houses by putting a bamboo fence obstruction at the entrance so that no one can enter inside. So the countrywide lockdown came as a windfall for these illicit country liquor producers and reportedly they are having a bumper business now.

On the other hand, there are many public complaints against illicit opium trade in the Digulturrang-Baghjan area under Baghjan Police Station. According to report received here, the opium suppliers are carrying on their business with the tacit support of the police. Several i-10 and Maruti vans engaged in carrying illicit opium were allegedly not seized by the police while the persons arrested in this connection got off scot-free later for reasons best known to the police.
