State-level student seminar concludes in Gargaon College

SIVASAGAR: A two-day state-level online student seminar on the theme "History of Assamese Literature and the Culture of Assam: Different Dimensions of Study" for the students of Assamese studying in different colleges under Dibrugarh University was organized with the joint collaboration of Gargaon College, Sivasagar and Dergaon Kamal Dowerah College, Golaghat on October 22 and October 23.

Inaugurating the seminar, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College in an informative speech, threw light upon the past and present aspects of Assamese language and literature and spoke on the necessity of undertaking research in areas hitherto unexplored. He also extended special thanks to Dr Ranjit Kumar Bordoloi, Principal of DKD College and to the coordinators of the seminar namely Devajani Bakalial and Dr Ankur Dutta, Assistant Professors of Gargaon College, Dr Monika Chutia and Mridul Moran, Assistant Professors of DKD College along with the faculty members of the department of Assamese of both the colleges.

Following the welcome address given by the Vice Principal of DKD College, Dr Pabitra Mahanta and a speech by Nilakhi Chetia, head of the department of Assamese, Gargaon College, the resource person Dr Jyotirekha Hazarika, Associate Professor in Assamese, JB College and eminent researcher of language offered the keynote address. In an engrossing and thought-provoking deliberation, she offered insights on the Assamese language, the origin of script, the history of literature and the varied and rich Assamese culture, emphasizing the need for reexamination of these aspects and elimination of confusion and misunderstanding through effective study. She appreciated the efforts of the students who had presented the papers.
