LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) staged a massive protest in North Lakhimpur town on Thursday opposing the sky-rocketing prices of almost all essential commodities, petrol, diesel, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) medicines, electricity charge etc.

Regarding the issue, the activists of the organization at first assembled at Tyag Kshetra of North Lakhimpur town. Then they took out a protest rally covering the town and staged dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office. During the demonstration, the protesters, by shouting various slogans, flayed the State and Union governments led by BJP alleging their comprehensive failure with regard to controlling the price hike. The leaders of the organization criticized the Supply Minister Ranjeet Dass for his alleged statement, 'only price of milk has hiked in Assam' at a time when the common people of the State are suffering a lot for the abrupt rise in prices of all things. They termed his statement to be 'an insult to the people of Assam' and asked him not to make such 'ridiculous' statement.

Later the organization submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur demanding a decrease in the sub-tax, excise duty of petro-products, to supply the essential commodities through Public Distribution System, to waive all taxes until the decrease in prices of the essential commodities along with other various demands.
