TEZPUR: "Assam tea, which is known for its quality, is now under threat from some unethical companies which are producing sub-standard tea from low-quality buds and not following quality standard norms," said national and international award winning tea manufacturing expert Prasanta Kumar Nath at a tea launch ceremony held at Padumoni Tea factory premises of Bakola village in Biswanath Chariali district.

He further added, "In recent times, many young Assamese youths have entered the tea economy. While huge potential of tea economy awaits us, we should also keep in mind that tea will fetch good return only if we maintain the quality. Our aim is to produce best quality tea and to enhance the fame of Assam."

Padumoni Tea factory was formally established in 2021. However, it had a humble origin from a 50-bigha garden started by four educated Assamese youths, namely Chandan Mahanta, Manjit, Bhuyan, Arun Bhorali and Pranjal Barua in 1997. Now the company has increased its cultivation area to 450 bighas.

The Parijat Tea packets were formally inaugurated by senior journalist Nandan Pratim Sarma Bordoloi, in the presence of Mukti Hazarika, writer and social worker, Pradeep Kumar Barman, member of Assam Tea Broker, Guwahati, and other dignitaries.

Earlier, attending the event, Pradeep Kumar Barman, member of Assam Tea Broker, Guwahati said that the reputation of Assam Tea depended upon the quality of tea produced by the tea growers and if they failed to produce good quality buds then tea produced would also be of low quality.
