LAKHIMPUR: On the third day of the 23rd triennial session of Mising Agom Kebang (MAK), thousands of literature lovers thronged the Tarun Chandra Pamgam Lotta under Ratanpur Miri area by the Kherkotia River of island district Majuli on Saturday. The enthusiasm of the people of the second largest ethnic community of the State added new dimensions to their pledge and determination to save their own language literature and culture.

The agenda of the extravaganza on Saturday began with a crucial symposium on ‘Role of Mising researchers in the amelioration of Mising language and literature’. Former president of MAK, Dr. Jawahar Jyopti Kuli chaired the programme while Dr. Dipak kumar Doley, a noted researcher of the community, took part as the resource person of the symposium.

“MAK has to do a lot of work for spreading and development of Mising language and literature. Various dimensions of Mising literature and language, though they have rich manifestations, are still lying undiscovered due to the lack of systematic study and sufficient infrastructure for research works. In this regard, MAK must pay attention to the publication and popularization of research-based masterpieces of the researchers of the community. Then only the Mising literature and language can ameliorate like other languages and literature or they will get lost in the course of time under the impact of the Assamese and English languages,” stated Dr. Dipak Kumar Pegu in his lecture.

In addition to him, Majuli Rangachahi College Principal Dr. Naba Kumar Pegu and former MAK president Dr. Bidyeswar Doley also took part in the symposium as resource persons.

In the second half of the day, the first open session of the event was held with the MAK president Gobinda Taid in the chair. Senior professor of Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, Dr. JJ Kuli inaugurated the programme wherein Axam Xahitya Xabha president Dr. Paramananda Rajbonshi, Arunachal Pradesh Adi Xahitya Xabha president Kaling Borang, Deori Xahitya Xabha president Lilakanta Deori, presidents of Galo Welfare Society and Tagin Cultural Society, MAK secretary Ileswar Doley, former secretary Kalinath Panging, Takam Mising Porin Kebang secretary Padma Losan Doley along with a galaxy of ethnic organization dignitaries took part.

They vowed to spread the language and literature of the community and to extend co-operation to MAK in this regard.

A host of talented youths of the community were felicitated as a part of the third day programme of the event. The programme of the concluding day of the event on Sunday will kick off with a colourful cultural rally to be inaugurated by Mising Sanskritik Mahasabha vice-president Pabitra Kumar Pegu.
