SIVASAGAR: Official activities of Sivasagar district administration were paralyzed on Monday as employees and staff of the Deputy Commissioner's Office, Sivasagar and other government offices observed total non-cooperation and staged a protest in front of the DC's office against the New Pension Scheme (NPS) and demanded restoration of Old Pension Scheme (OPS).

The employees, under the banner of All Assam Government NPS Employees' Association (AAGNPSEA), Sivasagar district committee, participated in the strike and sit-in holding banners and placards and demanded restoration of the old pension scheme for the welfare of the government employees.

The employees strongly reacted against the NPS and joined hands in the strike for paving the way of post-retirement security and welfare of the government employees.

Addressing the gathering, AAGNPSEA, Sivasagar District Committee president Rituparna Gogoi, in presence of joint secretaries Debajit Gogoi and Bhupen Khamun, said that in case the government shows no response, the organization will resort to a padayatra in September where more than 50,000 employees, including teachers, officers will walk in support of their demand for restoration of OPS.

UDALGURI: NPS employees observed day-long strikes demanding restoration of the old pension scheme. The teachers and employees of Harisinga H S School shouted slogans to demand restoration of the old pension scheme immediately. The teachers and employees are apprehensive of their future seeing the condition of the retired teachers under the new pension scheme who are getting a meagre amount as pension.

HAFLONG: Demanding the scrapping of NPS, the employees of Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner's office staged a sit-in at Haflong on Monday. The employees demanded the cancellation of the new pension policy and the restoration of the old pension policy. In response to a call of the All Assam NPS Employees' Association, the employees participated in the protest with various slogans.

JAMUGURIHAT: In response to the call given by the All Assam NPS Employees' Association, the teachers and employees of THB College observed a day-long strike in the college premises on Monday. However, the teachers and employees who were engaged in conducting the final exam performed their respective duties in the college.

The strike was also supported by the teachers and employees who were not included under NPS but under OPS. In the morning, the protesting employees used black badges as a mark of protest. A meeting was also held during the protest and Dr Jitu Tamuly explained the necessity to scrap NPS and restore OPS.

Similarly, the employees of Jamuguri HSS, Panpur HSS, Dakhin Nagsankar High School, Dekorai HSS, Rangachakuwa HSS, Nagsankar High School and other employees of undertaking institutions staged a sit-in inside their respective institutions. The protesters shouted slogans in favour of restoration of the OPS (old pension scheme).

DEMOW: The All Assam Government NPS Employees' Association (AAGNPSEA) staged cease work on Monday in support of their demand for the restoration of the old pension scheme. Under the appeal of All Assam Government NPS Employees' Association, the NPS employees of Nitaipukhuri Higher Secondary School also staged cease work on Monday. They demanded scrapping of NPS and restoration of OPS.
