HAFLONG: A strong complaint against the negligence of the NHAI officials and demand for immediate completion of NH 27 and NH 54, the highway portion from Manderdisa to Balachera, has been lodged by several students' bodies of Dima Hasao to the Roads, Transport and Highways Minister of India, through the Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao on Friday.

The Students' Organizations of Dima Hasao like Dimasa Students' Union (DSU), All Dimasa Students' Union (ADSU), All Hrangkhol Students' Association (HkSA), Thadao Students' Association (TSA), Hmar Students' Association (HSA), All Biate Students' Association (ABSA), Karbi Students' Association (KSA), All Assam Gorkha Students' Union (AAGSU) etc have drawn his attention towards the grievances faced by the people of Dima Hasao from last 15 to 20 years and for the immediate solution of their problems.

Their demands include the immediate completion of NH 27 and NH 54, portion of Dima Hasao connecting Lumding –via- Dima Hasao to Silchar, installation of proper signage with radium lights in all diversions, dead ends and curves, proper inquiry of the negligence of NHAI Officials in maintaining the NH roads, immediate completion of NH 27 and NH 54, portion of Dima Hasao connecting Lumding –via-Dima Hasao to Silchar.

All are aware of the fact that the East West Corridor, a dream National Highway project of former Prime Minister Lt. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a 3300 Kms connecting Gujrat to Silchar is in a deplorable and deteriorating condition due to non-completion and poor maintenance by the concerned department.

The incomplete NH roads portion of Dima Hasao from Manderdisa to Jatinga and its deteriorating condition leads to frequent vehicle collisions and fatalities. And moreover, due to hilly terrain and after recent incessant rainfall and natural calamities, the frequent sinking and landslides in major portion of the roads takes place which have risked the lives of innocent people. The students' bodies have demanded early solution.
