TEZPUR: Students of four particular schools in Tezpur town, namely Don Bosco High School, Tezpur Gurukul, St. Mary's and St. Xavier are facing a stressed situation as their classes have not been resumed yet. These particular schools were occupied by the district administration during the peak time of COVID-19 pandemic, for quarantining the migrated labourers coming back from different parts of the country. However, they have not been de-requisitioned till date.

It is to be mentioned here that as per the government notification, with the rest of the State, in undivided Sonitpur District also, classes for students of class IX to XII in all the private and government secondary and senior secondary schools have been resumed from September 21. However, the authorities of the four mentioned schools are not being able to restart their classes because of the aforementioned problem. It is important to note here that like other schools, the authorities of the schools in Sonitpur District too followed the online mode as an option to the normal class to keep their wards vibrant combating the pandemic.

But due to server problems, the teaching community and the students as well have failed to meet their academic need, leading the both into a stressed condition. Particularly, in rural areas giving education through online have been proved to be a useless system as 90 per cent students in rural areas are either not acquainted with the system or cannot afford a smartphone.

Moreover, in many villages, though some students are having smartphones but due to the absence of electricity and available internet facilities they cannot access to the timely online classes, ultimately getting deprived of the needful materials provided by their teachers. Some of the worried guardians here having children in 10th and 11th standard in the above mentioned schools said that even the town area students are not successful in doing the online classes because of poor internet service.

"As our students are comfortable with the offline mode, we felt happy that the government is instructing to reopen the schools to complete the courses of the X and XII standards, so that the students can comfortably appear in their final examinations that are likely to be held in March 2021. But our children are deprived off the same as administration is yet to de-requisition their school," a parent lamented urging the administration and the school authority to take necessary steps to resume the classes.
