Sub-inspector arrested for taking bribe in Dibrugarh district

DIBRUGARH: The police arrested Dip Jyoti Das, Sub-Inspector of Tengakhat Police Station in Dibrugarh district on charges of taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh by intimidating one Barnavash Kajur on October 6.

Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police, Prateek Thube told media persons that Officer in-chage of Tengakhat Police, based on reliable information, conducted a raid in Sub-inspector Das' residence with the help of Chabua Police and during the search, police recovered Rs 1 lakh and other related documents from his possession.

Das later confessed his crime. A case has been registered (no. 118/20 under sec.387 I.P.C) at Tengakhat police station and accordingly, he was produced before the court in Dibrugarh. He is in police custody now. Meanwhile, police conducted search operation at the residence of SI Das at Rangia.
