Subhrajyoti Bharali Arrested By Guwahati Police In Rs 50 Crore Scam

Guwahati: On Sunday, the Pan Bazar Police arrested Subhrajyoti Bharali in connection to the Industrial Co-Operative Bank Limited Rs 50 crore scam. 

Bharali, who had been absconding, was arrested after an employee identified as Gakul Talukdar lodged a complaint (551/21) against him at the Pan Bazar police station.

It is to be mentioned that Subhrajyoti Bharali served as the Managing Director (MD) of the Industrial Co-Operative Bank Limited. 

Previously, eight top officials of the Industrial Co-Operative Bank Limited were booked after a case (498/2021 under section 120 (B)/408/409/468/471 of the Indian Penal Code) was lodged by Bhadreswar Barman who is the president of Nagarik Suraksha Mancha, Assam. According to the complaint, the eight officials were involved in financial misappropriation and forgery in the back which amounted to Rs. 50 crores.

However, the Gauhati High Court had granted bail to Subhrajyoti Bharali, Rajeswar Das, Ganesh Deka, Rinku Barman, Mohit Chandra Goyari, Naren Chandra Medhi, Mukul Talukdar, Anil Chandra Kalita in case no. 489/2021.

The police have taken Bharali to the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) for medical tests.
