GOLAGHAT: Huge anomalies are alleegdly taking place in the re-verification process of rhino horn stored in the Treasury Office of Golaghat since 1980. A rhino horn verification team started re-verification of rhino horns at Circuit House of Golaghat and completed it on Sunday. The team re-verified the rhino horns at Golaghat under the chairmanship of M. Hussain.

An allegation was raised that huge anomalies took place in the re-verification process of rhino horns. In the year 2016, a high-level rhino horn verification team under chairmanship of Mohan Chandra Malakar had verified the rhino horns that were stored in the Golaghat treasury. After completion of verification of rhino horns, the rhino horn verification team had released a press statement on August 24, 2016 stating that altogether 1,195 rhino horns kept in 39 boxes in the Golaghat treasury had been verified. The total rhino horns stored in Golaghat treasury were 1,195.

On September 9, 2021, in a press statement by DIPRO, Golaghat, it was stated that altogether 1,195 rhino horns would be examined in Golaghat which would include 1,992 rhino horns from Golaghat treasury and 3 horns from Jorhat. In the statement it was stated that 1,992 rhino horns are in Golaghat treasury out of 1,195 rhino horns. Already 1,195 rhino horns have been kept in 39 boxes in Golaghat treasury as per the statement given by the verification expert team of 2016. This time in the re-verification process, three rhino horns are suspected to be missing from Golaghat treasury.
