Suspected ATM Robber Injured During Police Firing In Assam's Golapara

GUWAHATI: A man suspected as an ATM robber got severely injured after he was shot by police during firing as he was trying to hide and run away from police.

The incident took place in the Nayapara area of Assam's Goalpara district.

The accused man sustaining injuries from police firing was later identified as Mussadik Hussain, a resident of Krishnai, Goalpara.

Mussadik Hussain has been alleged of having his involvement in a big ATM robbery. The Golapara police strongly claim that Hussain is an ATM thief as informed by sources.

According to reports, a team of police traced Hussain with the help of CCTV footage that was recorded in the camera placed in the ATM corner of Nayapara.

Through the footage, the police got to know that the robber involved in a big ATM heist is Hussain and then they followed him tracing his location. He was found living in a rented house in the Nayapara location.

Police officials stated that as the team of police reached his apartment, Hussain had allegedly attempted to flew away from the spot.

While he was running away and trying to escape, police asked him to stop and stay where he is otherwise they have to resort to controlled firing.

Hussain did not stop on police warning and hence the police started firing with no other option to stop him.

The accused got injured during the police firing and later he was arrested and taken under police custody.

At present, Hussain is undergoing medical treatment in a local hospital in Goalpara.

Earlier a few days ago on Monday 10 January 2022, another individual from Assam's Dibrugarh district got shot during similar police encounters. The person was allegedly caught trying to loot an ATM of a nationalized bank located close to the unit of Military Engineering Services in Chabua.
