Suspension of ferry services enters 5th day for Brahmaputra water flowing above danger mark

JORHAT: Central Water Commission (CWC) declared that following a spate of mighty Brahmaputra, recorded to be flowing 2.27 meters above the danger level as recorded at Neematighat while being stable at Pasighat, Dibrugarh, Jhajimukh but flowing above the danger level since morning hours, suspension of ferry services to and from Majuli enters fifth day as there is no change in the flood situation.

CWC sources said that all the tributaries connected to the Brahmaputra continue to flow a meter above the danger mark recorded at various reading points. Moreover, the Inland Water Transport (IWT) is keeping two of its vessels ready loaded with anti-erosion materials to meet anti-erosion measures wherever situation demands. The vessels will move into action as several erosion prone areas would have to be taken care of after the fall of water level, which is the usual happening post flood period, said IWT official source here. The adjacent areas around mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries along with 16000 population from Jorhat West Revenue Circle, Teok Revenue Circle, Titabor Revenue Circle is continuously riling under water as district administration, Health, Veterinary, APDCL and PHE have already started monitoring their respective responsibilities and distributing medicines with essential commodities to the affected people.
