SVEEP activities intensified in Hailakandi for greater participation of voters

Various programmes have been taken up under the Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) to motivate voters, especially young and women voters for the upcoming Assembly election in Hailakandi election district.

HAILAKANDI: Various programmes have been taken up under the Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) to motivate voters, especially young and women voters for the upcoming Assembly election in Hailakandi election district.

SVEEP Cell members held a voter awareness meeting with ASHA Supervisors organized by NHM at GNM School on Saturday. In the awareness meeting, Cell Assisting Officer Sari L. Laungtau, addressed the health functionaries along with cell members Shankar Choudhury, Monika Das and Bijoyini Bhattacharjee spoke about the COVID protocols to be observed during election and their participation in the electoral process to strengthen further the foundation of democracy.

Choudhury described about the sparrow mascot unveiled by the district administration to spread the message of greater participation of people, especially youth and women in the upcoming election. He said ASHA Supervisors must play a major role in motivating women to vote as 'because you all are already giving your best regarding health related issues'.

Assistant Commissioner Laungtau also urged the ASHA Supervisors to encourage and motivate women to come out in large numbers on the polling day. She also stated that this time around 80 plus voters and persons with disabilities can also cast their votes from their home through postal ballots. The meeting ended with vote of thanks from cell member Bhattacharjee.

SVEEP Cell is also organising street plays to create voter awareness with the help of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and ASRLM in connection with Assembly election.

Election banners with slogans appealing to people to cast votes and to follow COVID protocols have been splashed all over the district.

An election mascot sparrow has been unveiled by District Election Officer, Megh Nidhi Dahal to spread the message from household to household to participate in the democratic exercise. A selfie corner has also been installed at the DC's office premises.
