LAKHIMPUR: “CAA must be scrapped. We will not retreat from the battlefield until and unless the controversial Act is scrapped. Our democratic protest against the Act will be going on with intensified form,” stated Lakhimpur district unit Tai Ahom Yuba Chatra Sanmilan, Asom (TAYCSA) president Joyjyoti Gogoi while demonstrating protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) on Friday.

The Lakhimpur district body of TAYCPA initiated sit-in programme in front of the Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner’s office demanding the scrapping of the contentious Act. The organization undertook the programme as a part of the series of its consecutive agitation programmes against the Act.

Leading the protest, Joyjyoti Gogoi and joint secretaries of the organization Khirod Chetia and Akshay Gogoi severely criticised BJP-led governments in the Centre and in the State for adapting the Act ignoring the massive protest initiated by the multiple organizations and people against it.

“We will never allow the governments to enforce the Act in Assam to put the indigenous communities of the State to extinction. This Act will destroy the existence of the Assamese culture and language and demographic balance,” Joyjyoti Gogoi Added.

While staging the protest, the activists of the organization shouted slogans demanding the scrapping of the Act and slamming the BJP governments for adapting dominating policy to silence the anti-CAA agitation. The organization demanded the State government to release all the anti-CAA agitators who were arrested across the State and issued a warning not to oppress upon and arrest any more non-violent agitators in future. By staging the programme, the organization submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through Lakhimpur DC opposing the CAA and demanding his steps for its withdrawal.
