Take Inspiration from Indian Cricket Team: PM Modi Tells Tezpur University Students

TEZPUR: Addressing the students and faculty at the 18th convocation of Tezpur University in Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that youths should take inspiration from Indian cricket team's historic win against Australia.

Further PM Modi added that although the young Indian team was comparatively inexperienced and also injured, their determination was upfront to beat one of the best teams in the world at a venue where no one thought they would win.

Meanwhile, at the convocation held at Tezpur University today, as many as 1,218 students received their degrees and diplomas.

Among the degree recipients, 48 toppers of various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes were awarded gold medals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 18th convocation of Tezpur University, Assam at 10:30 am through video conferencing.

PM Modi added that "During the freedom struggle, many brave hearts from Assam have given their lives now you have to live for the AtmaNirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India)," Modi told the students and urged them to spread the tej (light) of Tezpur University across the world."

The PM also praised the innovation hub of Tezpur University and initiatives like the simple and cheap way of purifying water by the department of chemical science, which is benefiting many villages across Assam.

Remembering Assam's contribution to the freedom struggle, Modi said, " Our nation is entering its 75th year of independence this year. Innumerable people from Assam have contributed to our freedom struggle. Now, it is upon you to use your lives for a self-reliant India (Aatma Nirbhar Bharat)."

Governor of Assam Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, Union Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Tezpur Lok Sabha MP Pallab Lochan Das was also present on the occasion.

The convocation was being held in the blended mode observing the COVID-19 protocols, whereby only the PhD scholars and 'Gold Medalists' will receive their degrees and Medals in person. The other recipients will be awarded degrees and diplomas virtually, stated a release.
