Taliban Supporters Are Enemies Of The Country: MP Dilip Saikia

GUWAHATI: Assam BJP MP Dilip Saikia, who is representing the Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency, lashed out at the Assam Taliban supporters saying that they are enemies of the country.

As many as 14 people including an AIUDF leader and an MBBS student were arrested by the Assam police for their social media updates supporting the Taliban who recently ousted the US-backed Afghan government from power and reclaimed the restive country.

The persons who have been held are – Maulana Fazul Karim (49) of Darrang, Abu Bakkar Sidique (55) of Kamrup (R), Saidul Hoque (29) of Kamrup (R), Jawed Mazumder of Cachar, Mozibul Islam (25) of Barpeta, Faruk Hussain Khan (32) of Barpeta, Saiyad Ahmed (27) of Dhubri, Arman Hussain (25) of Dhubri, Nadim Akhtar (23) of Hailakandi, Khandakar Nur Alom of South Salmara, Maulana Yaseen Khan (26) of Goalpara, Maulana Basir Uddin Laskar (65) of Hojai, Mujib Uddin of Karimganj and Mortuza Hussain Khan of Karimganj. Singh advised everyone through his tweet to be careful in giving posts or liking the same on social media.

Commenting on the issue, the BJP mocked the Taliban supporters and sympathizers to leave India and go to Afghanistan.

"If they had done that in their knowledge, they should leave India. They are enemies of the country. They should take the citizenship of Afghanistan. They should create unrest here," he added.

He also warned not to create a threat to the integrity of India adding that those who support the Taliban are real enemies of mankind.

"World has been alarmed by the Taliban's deed in Afghanistan. Their brutality has been shocking the entire world. Taliban are enemies to humanity", he further said.

On the other hand, it was the first instance of arrest of persons in the state in connection with the Taliban row. The Guwahati police had in May this year held a youth from Dhemaji district for a remark on social media against chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The arrested youth Nipom Chutia is a member of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti. The cyber cell of the Assam Police had earlier this month launched a campaign to monitor social media sites. The purpose of the campaign is to detect unscrupulous elements which misuse social media by posting objectionable, inflammatory content or use the medium to carry out unlawful, clandestine activities.
