KOKRAJHAR/ BAKSA: MLA of United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) from 58- Tamulpur ST constituency, Leho Ram Boro breathed his last due to COVID-19 at GMCH, Guwahati on Saturday morning. Just three days ago on May 26, BPF MLA from 28-Gossaigaon constituency, Majen Narzary also died due to post COVID-19 complications.

Leho Ram Boro leaves behind his wife and two sons. He was 63. The newly-elected MLA, who was suffering from hypertension and diabetes fell ill, in the morning on May 27. He immediately reached the Tamulpur Primary Health Centre and he was tested COVID-19 positive. He was immediately shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. But his health significantly deteriorated at night. He suffered stroke at night and was immediately shifted into the Intensive Care Unit at GMCH. He breathed his last at 9.05 am on Saturday.

Bagaram Boro's son Leho Ram Boro was born to a poor family in Deochunga village of Bholajhar in undivided Kamrup district on January 1, 1958. He was very sharp-witted since he was a student. He used to fish in the river and sell the fish in Bholajhar and Atarikhat markets to pay his school fees. He was the general secretary of the students' union while he was in class IX at Naokata Milan High School. He passed the High School Leaving Certificate examination after studying at Naokata High School and graduated from Cotton College. He was appointed as assistant teacher at Tamulpur Higher Secondary School in 1978. He later completed his Master's degree in English and joined Tamulpur Higher Secondary School as a subject teacher in English.

After teaching for few years, he was appointed as Block Development Officer after qualifying the examination of the Assam Public Service Commission. He voluntarily retired in 2016 after working as a skilled administrative officer in various development block offices in Assam.

His body was taken back to Tamulpur and his last rites were performed on the banks of Kala River in Kumarikata on Saturday in the presence of political leaders and admirers under the supervision of the district administration following full COVID protocol. Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary paid homage to his image at Tamulpur after performing the last rites. BTC chief Pramod Boro, minister Urkhao Gaura Brahma, MLA Ashok Singhal, BTC Executive Member Ranendra Narzary, MCLA Bjit Goura Narzary, other leaders, dignitaries and organizations also paid homage.

The general secretary of UPPL, Maoti Brahma Hazoary expressed deep sorrow over the demise of MLA Leho Ram Boro. He said that the party had lost a great social worker and active member of the party. He conveyed his condolence message to the bereaved family members.

Minister of Handloom and Textile and WPT&BC (BTC), UG Brahma also expressed sorrow over his untimely dead and said that the party had lost one of the most promising representatives.

Meanwhile, the CEM of Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC), Mihiniswar Basumatary and EM Anil Basumatary also expressed deep shock and condoled his demise.

On the other hand, the president of the All Bodo Students' Union, Dipen Boro and general secretary Khanindra Basumatary also expressed sorrow and condoled his demise.
