BAKSA: State Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday joined two election meetings at Tamulpur in Baksa district for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Hemnta Kumar Rabha of No. 28 Goibari constituency.

Participating in the meeting, Dr Sarma announced to declare Tamulpur as a new district of the State. The decision has been taken keeping in mind the greater interest of the local people, Himanta added. Tamulpur is currently a subdivision of Baksa district under the BTC.

While addressing an election rally at Ghagrachowk of Tamulpur, Dr. Sarma said, "We will create Tamulpur district. Tamulpur district will include Darangajuli, Goibari, Nagrijuli and Suklai Serfang constituencies of the BTC. There will be five districts in BTC. Currently there are four districts under the BTC."

The existing four districts under the BTC are—Kokrajhar, Chirang, Udalguri and Baksa.

"A medical college will be established at Tamulpur and a new bridge over the Pagladia will be constructed. There will be a government college at Tamulpur with Science, Arts and Commerce streams. A stadium will also be constructed," Sarma added.

He also highlighted other welfare schemes taken up by the BJP-led Assam Government. On the other hand, the minister took on the Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People's Front (BPF) for widespread corruption and anomalies in implementation of government schemes in their 15 years' rule.

Criticizing Hagrama Mohilary, Sarma said that the people of BTC could not get any benefits of the schemes without paying bribes. Hence the people would support the BJP seeking change and development in the BTC region.

After the meeting at Tamulpur, Sarma joined another election rally at Angarkata under No. 26 Darrangajuli constituency where he against criticized Mohilary. Talking to media persons, minister Bhabesh Kalita said, "The BJP will get absolute majority in the BTC election and will form the BTC government."

In Kokrajhar. minister Pijush Hazarika, MLA Emanuel Moshahary, along with many senior leaders of the BJP, joined the rally.
