TB medicine distributed among patients of Indo-Bhutan border villages

Kokrajhar: A team of National TB Elimination Programme, Kokrajhar under the leadership of Dr Kausik Das, District TB Officer, has given home delivery of anti-TB medicine to TB patients of the remote rural areas of the district in Ultapani, Saralpara and Lungsung along the Indo-Bhutan border. These people could not come to receive their medicines from the respective DOTS centres. TB medicines are given to patients only under complete supervision.

Talking to reporters, Dr. Kausik Das, District TB officer, said that last year 2,154 TB cases were diagnosed in the district. The treatment success rate and all other indicators of TB treatment were good in district. Last year, Kokrajhar district was awarded as best district in Assam

The team also sensitized the TB patients on COVID-19 as the mortality rate of the dreaded disease was high among the TB patients. The team visited six patients and provided the course for one month.

The District TB Officer also urged the people to stay at home in the lockdown period and to obey the government rules and regulations.
