Dibrugarh: The members of Assam Cha Jonogusthee Jatiya Mohasabha (ACJJM) expressed their support to Duliajan MLA Teras Gowala’s decision to resign from his office after the government did not appoint him as the chairperson of Assam Gas Company Limited (AGCL), which falls in his constituency.
In a strong-worded press release issued on Wednesday, the members described how the tea community had turned to BJP for support and help following Congress’s alleged snub, and how they instead stood being cheated in the process at the hands of the present government.
They accused the government of devising a systematic ploy to hamper the community’s representation in the legislative process, and cited the instances of both Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and Rameshwar Teli – leaders of the tea community – not finding a place in the cabinet. The members categorically expressed their disappointment over Gowala not being made the chairperson of AGCL, and took the gesture as an insult to the dignity of the tea community. They also appealed to Gowala to leave the BJP. Moreover, following the piercing insult, they might as well consider calling on all the BJP leaders and workers from the tea community to quit the party, the members informed.
