Tea labourers stage protest in Demow

DEMOW: Under the patronage of Kaliapani Tea Estate Primary Union and with the help of local people, the tea labourers of Kaliapani Tea Estate on Friday protested against Oil India Limited's (OIL) move to make an oil drilling site in that area.

The tea labourers shouted slogans against Lakshmi Tea Company, Banik Gusti and protested with placards. According to sources, the labourers of Kaliapani Tea Estate and local people protested after they came to know that an oil drilling site will be made in the Kaliapani Tea Estate area due to which the tea labourers will allegedly get evicted from the area. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Manager of Athabari Tea Estate and demanded that there should not be any oil drilling site in the area.
