Teacher forces students to lick sand as punishment in Kalaigaon school

TANGLA: In a bizarre incident which is bound to raise everyone’s eyebrows and raise question about corporal punishment to students by teachers, the assistant headteacher, Binanda Deka of Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Smriti Uccha Ingrazi Vidyalaya located in Kacharitol under Kalaigaon PS in Udalguri district allegedly forced students to kneel down and lick sand as punishment for making errors in writing dictation in their classroom.

The students then reported about the punishment to their parent who lodged a protest on Monday and called on the authorities concerned for penalizing teacher. On a visit to the school on Monday, the students narrated their ordeal and described how they were coerced by their teacher to kneel down and lick sand after they made mistakes in the dictation.

Talking to media persons, two guardians - Bhupeshwar Rabha and Hari Prasad Rabha expressed astonishment over the corporal punishment their wards had to undergo and exhorted the education department to take cognizance of the matter. Reportedly, the teacher has begged for apology from the parents and the students are also going to school.
