BISWANATH CHARIALI: A teacher of Gohpur in Biswanath district was duped of a huge amount of money by online hackers. The incident came to light few days ago.

According to information, Gunendra Borah, a resident of Pranjal Nagar in Gohpur town and an assistant teacher at Gohpur Collegiate High School, received a call from a stranger when he was busy teaching in his class about 7 months back. The caller wanted to know from him if he had any lapsed insurance policy. In reply, Borah informed the person that he had a lapsed life insurance policy belonging to Max Life Insurance Company. Then Gunendra Borah was asked to fill up a format to revive the policy and send it back through WhatsApp. Borah was also asked to deposit Rs 20,000 in a bank account as processing fee. Subsequently, the fraudster took away a total of Rs 22.25 lakh from the teacher in the name of payment of taxes and other fees from time to time.

When the teacher became aware of the fraud, he approached the police and lodged an FIR in Gohpur police station. During investigation, police came to know that the main accused of the gang was a person from Hojai, Kampur. Though police managed to reach the accused person's house, he could not be apprehended.
