Teachers’ Day Celebrated across Assam

Tezpur: Along with the rest of the country, the 58th Teachers’ Day was observed in Tezpur at a district-level function held at the District Library Auditorium on Thursday.

The solemn function to mark the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was held under the aegis of district administration in association with the offices of the District Elementary Education Officer and Inspector of Schools. Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar presided over the meeting where MLA Tezpur Brindabon Goswami attended as guest of honour. Eminent educationist and former Controller of Examinations, Tezpur University, Dr. Bhubaneshwar Saharia delivered the keynote address on the occasion where he spoke in length about the various policy decisions that brought about changes in the education system in India right from the 18th century till present times.

Altogether 55 primary and middle school teachers from undivided Sonitpur district were felicitated on the occasion of 58th Teachers’ Day by the district administration. Two books were also released on the occasion.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Parag Kakoty, District Elementary Education Officer Phatik Doley, Inspector of Schools Joyram Hazarika and other officers and staff of the education department were also present on the occasion.

JAGIROAD: The 58th Teachers’ Day was celebrated at Indus Academy, a CBSE-affiliated school at Jagiroad. The day began with a plantation drive by chairman of Jagiroad Development Authority, Dibyajit Neog followed by ceremonial lighting of lamp and offering floral tributes to Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The session was also addressed by Dibyajit Neog, secretary of the Indus Educational Trust, Manoranjan Mishra and Principal of Indus Academy, Prashanta Bhattacharjee. A cultural function was also organized by the students of the school.

DHEKIAJULI: Teachers’ Day was celebrated with much fervour in schools, colleges and educational institutions across Dhekiajuli Revenue Circle area on Thursday.

Students put on performances, dances, skits and hosted elaborate shows for their beloved teachers in Tea Buds English High School, Netaji Vidya Mandir High School, Dhekiajuli Boys’ High School, Dhekiajuli Girls’ High School and some other institutions. The students cherished the contribution of teachers in making their life better and shaping their behaviour according to societal prospects. Tributes were paid to the former President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

Teachers, in their speeches at different educational institutions, motivated the students for a bright and better future. At a central function held at Tea Buds Endhish High School, as many as seven teachers were felicitated by the school students for their excellent work in the field of education. Teachers’ Day was also celebrated in LOKD College and in the ASDM, Training Centre.

DEMOW: The 58th Teachers’ Day was celebrated in Demow and its surrounding areas on Thursday with a day-long programme.

The programme started with the ceremonial lamp lighting before Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s portrait in various schools and colleges of Demow. Teachers spoke about Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and encouraged the students to follow his footsteps. Cultural programmes were organized in the educational institutions of Demow and its surrounding areas where the students performed dances, sang songs and staged drama.

Kokrajhar: Along with the rest of the country, Teachers’ Day was celebrated in Kokrajhar in a befitting manner.

Observed by the Education Department, BTC, at Basic Training Centre in Kokrajhar, floral tributes was paid to Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Total 157 retired teachers from Kokrajhar district were felicitated on the occasion. The retired teachers were given a certificate, Bodo traditional Aronai and Rs 1000 in cash.

Total 10 in-service teachers were also awarded as good performing teachers and facilitated for their good service. The good performing teachers were given Rs 5,000 in cash, citation, Aronai each. Assam Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma, BTC executive members Doneswar Goyary, BTC principal secretary Biren Chandra Phukan, APSC member Prafulla Hazowary, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Partha Pratim Mazumdar, BTC Additional Principal Secretary Robinson Mushahary, BTC education director Rabishankar Hazowary, Inspector of Schools of Kokrajhar, Jagadish Brahma attended the function as guest.

In her speech, minister Pramila Rani Brahma called upon the teacher community to work for the uplift of the education scenario in the State. Stressing the need of quality education, he urged upon the teachers to dedicate themselves for the service of the student community and to build a strong society.
