"Tell Your Mom I will Be CM, He Told me When I was 17 and he was 22": Riniki Bhuyan Sarma on Her Husband CM Himanta Biswa

Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma said that she is still not able to believe that her husband is now the Chief Minister of the state.

"I met him when I was 17 years old and he was 22 years old. When I asked him what should I tell my mother? What is he going to be? He said: Tell your mom that I will be the CM. At that point, I thought he is just 22 years old so he is just saying whatever he felt like. But since then we together have come a long way. When I married him he was the MLA. He has always been talking about politics. Now that he has become the Chief Minister, I am still not able to believe it," Riniki Bhuyan said after her husband was sworn in as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam.

Sharing about how little time they get to spend together, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma said that last night he reached home at 4AM and they chatted till 5.30AM on Monday morning.

"Earlier he used to come home by 2-3AM. On Sunday after being named the CM he reached home at 4AM. I understood what the coming days would be like, what I have to be prepared for," she said with a smile on her face.

Their son Nandil hoped that his father would continue working for women empowerment and expressed confidence that his father would be able to tackle the COVID situation. Nandil wants his father to carry on with the welfare schemes that his father has been working on in his earlier stint as the state's Finance, Health and Education Minister. Read more
