Tension prevails as gunmen fire at two vehicles in Langting, Haflong

Haflong: Tension prevailed in and around Langting area as a group of unidentified gunmen fired indiscriminately at two vehicles of a construction company on Wednesday night on the Langting-Mailoo road under Langting police station.

A group of gunmen numbering 10 to 12 entered the camp of a construction company near Mailoodisa on Wednesday evening and snatched mobile phones from the workers in the camp. Then they were instructed to get into the two vehicles. The vehicles moved towards Langting but after reaching a lonely place the workers were ordered to get down from the vehicles.

The gunmen then started firing at the vehicles indiscriminately. Seeing this, all the workers fled from the place to save their lives. Both the vehicles were badly damaged due to indiscriminate firing. Though no casualty reported, fear and tension among the workers and labourers still prevails.

In the morning as news of the firing spread, police rushed to the spot and recovered several empty bullets. The cause of firing is yet to be ascertained. Though no organization claimed responsibility for the incident, people suspect that it could be the handiwork of Dimasa National Liberation Army, a newly-formed armed organization.
