DIBRUGARH: Tension gripped the Dikom area under the jurisdiction of Dikom police outpost after two individuals accused of cattle theft were apprehended and physically assaulted by local residents near Maijan Hindu Kadmoni Nahartoli tea estate on Sunday night.
The situation escalated when a police team arrived to rescue the alleged thieves. A section of the agitated crowd reportedly turned violent, manhandling the Officer-in-Charge of the outpost and several other personnel. According to Dibrugarh police, the officers sustained minor injuries during the scuffle.
The two accused are currently in police custody. The atmosphere in the area remains tense following the incident. Police have launched an investigation into both the alleged cattle theft and the mob violence that followed.
