TEZPUR: Tezpur Police apprehended five persons in connection with cattle smuggling from Borghat area under Tezpur Sadar Police station in Sonitpur district on April 21. Police also seized two trucks bearing registration numbers AS 25 DC 1697 and AS 01GC 9388 along with 57 cattle from Borghat area.

While Talking to The Sentinel, Additional SP (headquarters) Sonitpur, Madhurima Das said that two vehicles were carrying illegal cattle and coming towards Dhemaji. "We sent a party under the leadership of SP, Sonitpur, Sushanta Biswa Sarma and apprehended the vehicles and rescued the cattle from them."

Das further said that the cattle were reportedly taken to Byrnihat in Meghalaya from Silapathar in Dhemaji district. The apprehended people have been identified as Sadam Hussain, Rahman Ali, Salam Ali, Sahed Ali and Safiqul Islam. A case has been registered and investigation is going on.
