Tezpur Police arrested three for beating youth to death

TEZPUR: Acting on a tip-off, a team of Tezpur Police led by Additional SP Numal Mahatta and DSP, Sonitpur, Dr Rashmi Rekha Sharma on Wednesday arrested three persons for allegedly beating a 41-year old businessman to death in Radhikapur village of Dipota under Tezpur PS in Sonitpur district on the night of May 2.

Notably, on May 6, Tezpur Police recovered the body of a youth from River Brahmaputra near Arimara Chapori. The deceased was later identified as Ghanashyam Baishya.

Additional SP Numal Mahatta said the accused had been identified as Kanu Das (21), Bikash Das (22) and Niraj Sarma (22), residents of Radhikapur village of Dipota. Mahatta further said that the deceased and three accused were friends and were drinking alcohol in Radhikapur area when the incident took place on May 2 and they attacked Ghanasyam Baishya with stick and iron pipes. A case Tezpur River PS 04/2020 U/S 302/201/34 IPC has been registered against them.
