

TEZPUR: Tezpur University (TU) started its new academic year by organising orientation programme for the newly-admitted students at the KBR auditorium on Tuesday. With the enrolment of new students in various undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and PhD programmes, the University organised two separate orientation programmes, one specifically for the B.Tech students and one for all students of UG, PG & PhD programmes.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University urged students to get out of their comfort zone and delved into the details of the areas where they study. He appealed students to seek answers by asking questions to themselves and others. “Do not be afraid of asking questions and be rest assured that only probing can lead to innovations and creativity,” Prof. Singh said. Prof. Singh further highlighted the facilities the university has and advised the students to use sports and other extra-curricular resources like gymnasium, music, dance and drama to the greatest extent for holistic development.
Addressing the students, Prof. Mrinmoy Kumar Sarma, Dean, Academic Affairs explained academic regulations of the University to the students. Prof. Sarma elucidated various nomenclatures of TU academic regulations such as Letter Grade and Grade Point, Maximum Credit limit in a Semester, Transfer of Credits etc. “At Tezpur University, we rigorously follow Academic Calendar and each and every activity is implemented in a timely manner,” Prof. Sarma said. He further said that students should not engage in any kind of malpractices in search of seeking higher grades.
The orientation programme featured several engaging and informative lectures aimed at familiarizing them with the university’s various functional bodies and facilities such as Internal Complaints Committee that examines complaints of sexual harassment at workplace, facilities such as training & placement cell, library, sports clubs and about the campus life. The orientation programme has interactive sessions, keynote addresses, local tours etc. lined up for the newly-admitted students.
