TEZPUR: Tezpur University recently launched a first of its kind, policy think tank 'Centre for Public Policy and Governance (CPPG)' that aims to be a pioneer in the field of evidence-based research and advocacy to inform and influence public policy in India, especially addressing issues of Northeast India.

This Centre will be an interdisciplinary organization with faculty members from various departments associated as experts in their domains of research. Tezpur University has been closely working in collaboration with UNICEF and many other agencies for the past few years through monitoring and evaluation studies, assessments, workshops and seminars to inform the government for achieving improved delivery of social sector programmes and policies. UNICEF will be the technical support partner to Tezpur University in establishing the centre and facilitating in implementing its roadmap for the next few years.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Vinod Kumar Jain envisages that the CPPG will work as a specialized centre with expertise on policy research and evaluation for the entire north-eastern region. Professor P K Das, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, will head the Centre as its director and Dr. Amiya Kumar Das, Department of Sociology, has been appointed as Co-ordinator of the Centre.

An advisory committee comprising of various experts, academicians, public service professionals has also been formed along with a governing body. The CPPG will work towards building a hub of research and knowledge generation in public policy and governance and plans to bring out publications (online and offline) in terms of working paper series, occasional paper series, journals, and books. The Centre foresees to collaborate with various national and international organizations sharing similar vision and mandate and will facilitate research, capacity building, events, and high-level dialogues for stakeholders, including government, non-governmental bodies, academia, and international organizations.
