Guwahati: Tezpur University will conduct its 18th Convocation on January 22, 2021, in Assam. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to attend the Convocation virtually.

Assam governor and Tezpur University chancellor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi will also preside over the programme in a virtual mode.

A total of 1218 students will be awarded degrees and diplomas by the university in the Convocation. Among the total number of students, 371 are undergraduate students, 725 postgraduate students, while the number of postgraduate diploma students is 36, and over 86 students are pursuing PhD.

Notably, over 48 toppers from various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes under the Tezpur university will be awarded gold medals.

According to reports, the Convocation will be held abiding by all Covid-19 protocols.

It is to be noted that only the PhD scholars and toppers will receive their degrees and gold medals attending the programme physically while remaining students will be given their degrees and diplomas virtually.

Confirming the presence of PM Modi on the occasion, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' took to his Twitter handle and wrote, "Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Shri @narendramodi ji will be addressing the 18th convocation of @TezpurUniv on 22nd Jan at 11 AM. The event will be covered #live on my Twitter/FB pages. Search for username '@DrRPNishank' to join #live."

To attend the convocation ceremony, the University has issued guidelines on its official website tezu.ernet .

Those who will attend the programme physically must carry a recent negative COVID-19 report undergo thermal screening inside the campus, and submit the negative report to the hostel authorities with washed hands and wearing masks, no food will be provided and neither guests will be allowed inside the campus. The students will also be provided with a bedroll that must be returned while checking out of the hostel.

The programme will be attended by Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Lok Sabha MP Pallab Lochan Das.
