KOKRAJHAR: A beautiful entrance gateway to Bodoland headquarter town Kokrajhar, the city of peace, designed with the cultural heritage of the Bodos, is set to open soon as the construction of the gate with beautiful artistic design gets the final touches.

Constructed at a cost of around Rs 1 crore, the thematic gate at Karigaon in Kokrajhar is a notable landmark that reflects the cultural and artistic heritage and traditions of the local community, particularly the Bodo people. The gate’s architecture is around a specific theme or concept, likely related to the local culture, history, or mythology. The gate may serve as a tourist attraction, drawing visitors interested in exploring the region’s cultural heritage, and a source of pride for the local community, symbolizing their identity and cultural values. The gate’s design may incorporate symbols, motifs, or patterns that are significant to the local culture, adding to its thematic nature. The gate is a testament to the community’s commitment to preserving their traditions.

From the Karigaon thematic gate, Kokrajhar town is 20 km away by road. The Jwhwlao Dwimalu road from Karigaon to Kokrajhar is a two-way road named after legendary Kachari hero Bir Dwimalu whose statue stands in front of the thematic gate along National Highway 31 (C). Kokrajhar is well connected to another National Highway in its southern part at Bhalpur, Bilasipara, and Florican Garden. A railway track also passes through Kokrajhar town. Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Airport is also there in the district and Bhutan’s ambitious mega project, ‘Gelephu Mindfulness City,’ is also just 60 km away, where the country is constructing an international airport along the border with India.

Kokrajhar town has transformed into a peaceful city, where students from various parts of the country come for higher studies at Bodoland University, Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital, Central Institute of Technology (CIT), a deemed to be university, Bineswar Brahma Engineering College, Gaide-Helena Nursing Institute, Bodoland Administration Staff College, and other important colleges. A second Kokrajhar University and Binod (Dabla) Football Academy are also coming up in Kokrajhar. The district had a bad name earlier due to the Bodoland Movement and militant organizations but now peace has returned. It is one of the safest zones for female students as there has been no record of crimes against women by local communities.
