This Govt Will Remain With People In All Seasons, To Have Party Offices In Every Mandal: Assam CM

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state incumbent government would stay with all the people both the rural and urban areas.

A section of the people criticised the Sarma government for holding cabinet meet in different places of the state. Thwarting the criticism, the Chief Minister claimed that earlier people criticised the ministers for discharging their duties only from Dispur, the state Capital.

"Today, some people criticise us for holding cabinet meet in different places of the state. Earlier, they criticised us for remaining only in Dispur. But we want to say that this government would stay with the people across seasons. We will take the government with the people. We will work for all," he added.

Chief Minister Sarma also said that some people criticised the meal served in the recent cabinet meeting held in Bongaigaon and claimed that the local people supplied the meal items.

"Hospitality is the major characteristic of the Assamese people. The local people of Bongaigaon supplied the food items considering us as their guests," he said.

"BJP came into prominence in the last two decades and it marched at a rapid pace from 2014 onwards. The party did not focus on having its offices at the district level initially, but today we are targeting to have our offices in every district headquarters," he added.

Earlier during the day, Sarma inaugurated the BJP Bongaigaon district office in presence of the party's state president Bhabesh Kalita.

"Now, we want to go to the mandal level. Our next target is to have party offices in each mandal of Assam. For that, we will need finances and we hope that people will contribute generously," the chief minister said.

Earlier speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said, "An allegation is doing rounds that xatra lands are under encroachment in the state. However, we have no exact areas of xatra land under encroachment."

Meanwhile, the Cabinet decided to form a committee with MLA Pradip Hazarika as the chairman for specific information on encroached xatra lands. A team from the Revenue Department will accompany Hazarika while visiting every xatra.

"He will study landed properties of xatras, their land under encroachment and the identities of the encroachers. The government will act after getting the report from this committee. We have given one-year time to the committee for this task," the CM added.
