Thousands of devotees take holy bath at Panimur falls

HAFLONG: Like every year, thousands of devotees, mostly from Dimasa community, took a holy bath at the Panimur falls which is considered as the 'Kopili Tirtha', on the day of Maghi Purnima in a religious atmosphere on Sunday. Kopili Tirtha or 'Kopili pilgrimage' is located 42 km from Umrangso on the Umrangso—Lanka road. This place being a holy place, people take holy bath on Maghi Purnima at Panimur since the rule of the Dimasa kingdom. The day's programme started with holy bath right from morning. After the holy bath, people worship Sibarai and offer prayers for the peace and well-being of the society in a mass prayer.

This was followed by a Dharma Sabha with Hiranmay Bathari, president of Sibrai Bismai Bosong central committee in the chair. NCHAC CEM, Debolal Gorlosa attended as the chief guest while chairperson, Ranu Langthasa, EM Ratan Jarambusa, Bijit Langthasa, Golonjo Thaosen, Nojit Kemprai, Projith Hojai, MAC Monjit Naiding, Nabojit Hojai, Ullas Kulkarni, Amrit Sing, Tajan Tasa of RSS, VHP, Kalyan Ashram etc attended as guests of honour.

While most speakers praised Sibrai Bismai Bosong's efforts to bring the entire community together, they also stated that the practise of one's own faith, tradition, and culture should be instilled in the minds of the next generation with pride to prevent them from succumbing to conversion.

CEM Gorlosa assured that his council team would leave no stone unturned in protection of indigenous faith and sought people's cooperation in the mission of protecting people from conversion. The day-long programme included general assembly and also distribution of prasad to the devotees.

The 'Kopili Tirtha' is observed every year and the number of devotees keeps increasing every year. This year people, other than those from the Dimasa community, were also seen taking holy bath at the waterfalls.
