NUMALIGARH: In an appalling case reported from Doigrung Tea Estate near Numaligarh in Golaghat district, three children died after drowning in a pond on Thursday.

According to sources, the three children were playing near a pond in the backyard of their house at the no.11 line of Doigrung TE. Their grandmother was working inside the house and she was the only one present in the house at that time as the parents had gone to work in the tea garden. While the kids were playing, they accidently fell into the pond and drowned. Sources said that the pond was full of water and the kids remained under water for more than 30 minutes.

The grandmother came looking for the children around the house and only then she noticed that the body of a child was floating on the water of the pond. With the help of locals, the grandmother recovered all three children and they were taken to the tea garden hospital of Lettekujan immediately. But unfortunately, doctors at the hospital announced all three as dead already. Numaligarh Police reached the spot and arranged for sending the three bodies to Golaghat KK Civil Hospital for post mortem.

The three deceased were identified as – Debasish Kheria (3), Sanjay Kheria (6) and Ishak Kheria (3). Sanjay and Ishak were siblings while Debasish was their cousin.
