BONGAIGAON: Three criminals related to cyber crime and sextortion were apprehended by Bongaigaon police on Tuesday night. Talking to the media, Luna Sonowal, Additional SP, Bongaigaon, said that an operation was launched by Bongaigaon police. "Total three persons, namely Ashraful Islam (27) , son of Abul Kasim of Kokila of Bongaigaon district, Billal Hussein (21) , son of Rustam Ali, resident of Udmari, Kolgachiya of Barpeta district and Monir Ul Islam (20) , son of Rejaul Karim of Kalgachiya of Barpeta district were arrested here. From their possession 25 ATM cards belonging to Federal, AXIS, Kotak and IDFC banks, 18 SIM cards, four mobile handsets, and cash Rs 7,930 were recovered. The ATM cards along with the SIM cards were procured from interior villages of Kokila and Kalgachia and collected by the arrested persons in lieu of cash of Rs 2,000 from the card holders."

The Additional SP further said, "The arrested persons were on their way to Vardhaman, West Bengal, when they were nabbed in Bongaigaon town. They were going to hand over the ATM cards and SIM cards to cyber criminals in West Bengal. As per their statements, these cards are used for phishing customers and sextortion. During investigation, they revealed two names -Shobu and Naru of Vardhaman, West Bengal who purchase the cards for further distribution and usage for cybercrime and sextortion. A case has been registered at Bongaigaon Police Station."
