DHUBRI: Demanding fulfillment of their four-point demands, the 'Assam Urban Water Supply & Sewerage Board Workers & Employees Association' has announced a three-day strike from July 27.

A total of 72 hours strike beginning from July 27, will continue till July 29 and and indefinite strike will commence from August 13 The Association's four-point demand includes job regularisation of all the non-regular employees working as work-charge employees for many years; promotion and increment of salaries for employees who have been working for over 10 years; depositing the group gratuity in accordance with revised norms; and, the introduction of leave salary contribution for the employees immediately and release of payment as according recommendation made by Sixth and Seventh Pay Commission.

The general secretary of the Association, Anjanjyoti Sarma in a press release stated that earlier many a time, they had postponed their agitational programmes on the assurance by the higher authority that the demands would be fulfilled.

" But nothing tangible came out, so we submitted our demands before the Director of our department on June 8 last year with an ultimatum of 15 days to fulfil the demands; but we deferred the move at the intervention of the then Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, Hitendra Nath Goswami after his assurance of conceding the demands soon," added Sarma.

Association president Babul Bora said, "Now, we have no other option than to ventilate our demands through the democratic way of agitation as even after submission of three memorandums this year from April to June to the head of the department, no positive response has come from that end".

Bora also threatened that if the government did not concede to their demands this time, Association would launch an indefinite strike from August 13.
