Three Dead, Two Injured In Road Mishap

JORHAT: At least three persons lost their lives and two others were seriously injured due to alleged inactiveness of Cinnamora Police and their negligence on duty. Police failed to stop a noodle-carrying six-wheeler truck (AS 01 DD-9166) driven by a drunk driver.

The FCI goods carrying truck near Cinnamora College entrance road hit a parked Swift Dzire near the Cinnamora SBI and crushed three persons, including a tea vendor and two other persons. Both Amit Saikia (35) and Nitul Goswami (45) died on the spot while the driver of the Swift Dzire who jumped out from the car received an injury in his leg.

After smashing the Swift Dzire and three persons, the truck continued to flee towards Jorhat city side. While moving in such a speed, the truck jumped over the railway line and went on it for 500 metres. After leaving the railway track, the truck hit a Mariani-bound truck between DIC and Carmel School and stopped finally. The driver was trapped inside the truck but he was rescued by locals of the Jakhalapora area. Police seized the truck and the goods.
