KOKRAJHAR: The leaders of the three factions of the NDFB, including NDFB (S), NDFB (D) and NDFB (R), have kicked off their first political campaign for the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), confirming the split in the four groups of the NDFB which signed the Bodo Peace Accord with the Government of India in New Delhi on January 27.

The president of the NDFB (P), Gabinda Basumatary left and joined the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) led by Promod Boro. Meanwhile, the general secretary of the NDFB (S), B R Ferenga, who has been keeping close ties with Promod Boro, is likely to join the UPPL also.

BPF president Hagrama Mohilary has already declared the names of 18 official candidates of the party for the 4th BTC general election to be held in April. Moon Moon Brahma, the official candidate of the BPF from No. 1 Porbhatjhora constituency, attended the public meeting in her constituency on Thursday where the council members of the three groups of the NDFB took part to show their solidarity with the Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF. However, BR Ferenga, the general secretary of the NDFB (S), was conspicuous by remaining absent in the meeting. According to sources, he is likely to join the UPPL, thereby pushing the 4th BTC general election to an exciting stage.

In the campaign for Moon Moon Brahma, the president of People’s Democratic Movement of Boroland (PDMB), Jebra Ram Mashahary and BPF Youth Wing leader Prahlad Brahma also took part.

Talking to a section of media persons, Dhiren Boro, president of the NDFB (D), said, “We want to implement the 3rd Bodo Accord successfully. We want the implementation of all clauses of the Accord in letter and spirit. We want withdrawal of all cases of the leaders and cadres of the NDFB and therefore, we need the support of BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary who has successfully implemented the BTC Accord signed in 2003.” He assured that they would extend their support and cooperation to Mohilary and join him so that BPF could come back to power.
