JOYSAGAR, July 15: The Gelakey Police of Sivasagar district arrested two fraudsters from Bangtung village of Nazira on Friday. Pallav Konwar and his female associate, Hemlata Sonowal were arrested by the Gelakey Police on fraud charges. There are allegations that they had collected about Rs. 35 lakh from local villagers as well as businessmen of Amguri, Nazira, Jhanji, Gelakey, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji, to give licenses for setting up Reliance mobile towers in their villages and also to provide them work related to mobile towers. After duping the gullible villagers, they both fled. People lodged FIRs in Gelakey PS against them and finally police were able to arrest them.
Meanwhile, another fraudster was arrested by Sapekhati Police of Charaideo district on Friday. She has been identified as Baby Sing Bhuyan (42) and she was a BJP ward member of Sapekhati Gaon Panchayat. She had allegedly collected Rs 7 lakh from many women SHGs to provide government fund under various welfare schemes. Following public complaint, finally Sapekhati Police arrested Baby on Friday, sources informed.
