Three minor girls rescued from Tamil Nadu

MANGALDAI: The prompt initiative of Darrang police led by the newly-joined Superintendent of Police, Prasanta Saikia has led to the safe rescue of three minor girls from Tamil Nadu suspected to be trafficked by an inter-state human trafficking racket presently active in the region, that too within three days.

Addressing the media about the rescue on Tuesday evening, Darrang Superintendent of Police Prasanta Saikia informed that three minor girl students studying in a private school at Chikanmati under Dalgaon Police Station were reported missing on August 13 after coming to school. On the basis of the FIR lodged by the parents with the mention of the name of an accused person, Dalgaon Police registered a case vide number 285/ 2022 under section 366(A)/34 of Indian Penal Code and started investigation.

The investigation, well assisted by Tamil Nadu Police, led to the safe rescue of all the three victims from Tamil Nadu. One married person, Babu Ali (25), prime accused and a resident of Sarba Heruwa village under Rowta Police Station in the Udalguri district, has been arrested by the Tamil Nadu Police while another prime accused, Hamijul Haque (26), who too is a married person of Chakrabasti village under Dalgaon Police Station, managed to escape.

A five-member police team consisting of two women police personnel and accompanied by a guardian rushed to Tamil Nadu to bring the victims back to Assam along with the accused. Subsequently, the victims were handed over to their respective families through the district Child Welfare Committee and the accused was remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday. Superintendent of Police Saikia further stated that efforts are on to nab the absconding other prime accused.

Superintendent of Police Prasanta Saikia, addressing the first press meet since assuming charge, sought cooperation from the media and the conscious circles of the district in controlling drugs and cyber crime in the district and assured of tough action from the police. With the expertise and experience in traffic management in Guwahati city, he also assured to streamline the traffic arrangements in the district. Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) Nirupam Hazatika and Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Pranjal Bora also accompanied the Superintendent of Police in the press meet. Earlier, Hemanta Kumar Barua of Mangaldai Media Circle accorded a hearty welcome to Prasanta Saikia with a phulam Bihuwan.
