Boko: Assam State Forest Department's Bamunigaon Forest Range seized three mini trucks illegally carrying pinewood timber in Lalmati village in Boko under Singra Forest Range on Thursday morning. Bamunigaon Forest Range officer Kushal Das led a forest team which seized the trucks. However, the smugglers managed to flee.

West Kamrup Divisional Forest officer Ranjan Goswami said that the seized timber was around Rs 3 lakh. Hemkanta Talukdar, CCF (CAC), gave inputs around one week ago about the illegal supply of timber from Meghalaya to various places in Assam.

DFO Goswami said that the police and forest officials recently conducted an operation against timber illegally transported to Assam in Byrnihat (along the Assam-Meghalaya border). After that, State Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya took the incident very seriously and ordered all the forest offices to stop this kind of illegal transportation. Meanwhile, the PCCF also ordered the State forest offices to stop transportation of illegal timber from Meghalaya to Assam.
