JAMUGURIHAT: Three young writers from Assam brought laurels to the State by having been awarded Sahitya Akademi's prestigious Yuva Puraskar 2020 in an award distribution ceremony held at Bangalore with a two-day programme. The two-day programme was held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bangalore. The first day programme was held on Sunday at Khincha Auditorium of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan which began with a devotional song followed by a welcome address by K.Sreenivasrao, secretary of Sahitya Akademi.
Chandrashekhar Kambar, president of Sahitya Akademi forwarded the presidential address. After the speech, a total of 23 young writers were awarded Yuva Puraskar 2020. The award constituted an inscribed copper plaque, a cheque of rupees fifty thousand and a garland. Arun Kamal, an eminent Hindi poet graced the award distribution ceremony as a chief guest. Three young writers from Assam Dwijen Das, Newton K. Basumatary and Anjan Baskota were awarded Yuva Puraskar 2020 in the august gathering.
Dwijen Das was chosen for his 'Mehg Ghora' (Assamese poetry), Newton K Basumatary for his 'Abwi-Abou Arw Ang' (Bodo poetry) and Anjan Baskota for his 'Dristri' (collection of Nepali essays) were chosen for the award in an executive meeting held on March 12 this year. The second day programme 'Awardees' Meet' was held on Monday at KRG Hall, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan with Sarjoo Katkar, convener of Kanada Advisory Board in the chair.
