Thunderstorm lashes Sarupathar in Golaghat district

SARUPATHAR: A thunderstorm destroyed houses, uprooted trees and brought down power lines on Friday around 7:20 pm in Sarupathar in Golaghat district, officials said.

“The storm destroyed everything in its path. Houses have no roofs and trees are all down,” said an affected person. Meanwhile, a strong storm along with heavy rain wreaked havoc in Dhansiri subdivision area on Friday night where a large number of electricity poles were damaged. People have been facing long power outages.

According to officials, Sarupathar area was hit by a sudden storm which damaged many houses, schools and uprooted many trees. Road connectivity on the outskirts of the area was blocked for several hours. The power supply was disrupted till Saturday. Local people are also worried that the strong room in Sarupathar College might have been affected by the thunderstorm.
